“We don’t do all the woodwork around,
we just do the best.”

 —Frederick Sandberg

Our work can be found in monumental, institutional, religious and residential buildings throughout the United States. Founded by Frederick Sandberg four generations ago, Granite Mill & Fixture Co. continues a tradition of excellence in millwork and architectural casework as one of the oldest family-owned and operated mills in the country.

What we do

We add beauty, texture and warmth where people meet.

Attention to detail

Our design and engineering team are second to none. We meet a wide range of design challenges from modern innovation to traditional nostalgia. Our work on the Cathedral of the Madeleine is a perfect example of our attention to detail.

Committed Craftsmanship

Our team of engineers and woodcrafters work together to create modern designs that provide form and function. Innovation is at the heart of our reputation and excellence in our craftsmanship is our signature. The Huntsman Cancer Center shows this well.

Refined Excellence

In over 114 years we have gained experience that covers a wide range of projects. Our attention to excellence is found in monuments, halls of government, and cornerstones of religion. The Church Conference Center represents our core.

Our Story

The turning of a single line shaft draped with endless pulleys in early 1907 was the beginning of the Granite Mill & Fixture Co. tradition. Founder F.R. Sandberg and associates spent many cold mornings starting the line shafts so that “The Mill” could produce the highest quality millwork for the community. Horse-drawn wagons delivered load after load of planed lumber and finished woodwork, often traveling as far as 80 miles from the first plant located in the Granite district of Salt Lake City, Utah.

Contrasting to the original Carlos Steam Engine that drove the line shaft, Granite Mill & Fixture Co. now enjoys a state of the art facility with computerized machinery and equipment, but we have never forgotten the importance of dedicated, highly skilled craftsmanship which has defined the Granite Mill & Fixture Co. reputation for over a century.

Our work can be found in monumental, institutional, religious and residential buildings throughout the U.S. Probably unforeseen by Frederick Sandberg four generations ago, the tradition of excellence in millwork and architectural casework live on today at Granite Mill & Fixture Co. as one of the oldest family-owned and operated mills in the United States. We strive each day to stay true to our founder’s legacy of excellence and remain the best at what we do.

“On behalf of my office and the citizens of Salt Lake County, thank you for your contributions to our community, and congratulations on 100 years of serving Utah. We are very proud of our local businesses and you are a fine example.”

Peter Corroon, Salt Lake County Mayor

“I enjoyed working with you on my recent remodel project. Most contractors and craftsmen today do not meet the standards that were expected in the past. So it is a great pleasure to see that someone could still deliver.”

Robert A. Fowler, FFKR Architect

“Many have commented as they have walked through the building as to the beautiful woodwork which has been accomplished. The attention to detail is second to none… I look forward to working with you on another temple project.”

Jon Wight, Jacobsen Construction

“Granite Mill was a key member of our team and they contributed significantly to the overall success of the Park City Medical Center project. I would recommend Granite Mill for your upcoming project without reservation.”

Brian Murphy, Okland Construction
